Shaun Groves and Ginny Owens In Concert 12th January 2008 Belfast
atiG presents Shaun Groves and Ginny Owens Live at Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle on Saturday 12th January at 8pm. Ticket Price: TBA

Shaun Groves

Shaun Groves defies typical expectations and simple labels. He is an insightful songwriter, one who displays such incredible lyrical prowess that his musical peers nominated him for Songwriter of the Year solely on the strength of his 2001 debut. He's also a solid on-stage performer as the lanky Texas native can hold his own whether standing solo before a college crowd or fronting his band at a youth event or festival. And to listen to Shaun Groves' music showcases a complete and talented artist in full bloom, constantly reaching for excellence.

However, none of these positions—songwriter, performer, artist—totally grasp the significance of the man or what he hopes to convey to audiences everywhere.

More than a musician, Shaun Groves is a communicator, a man full of messages and ideas that he hopes to translate through a variety of media. A writer, teacher, preacher, father, husband … and yes, most definitely a songwriter, performer and musician, Groves encapsulates everything that one would hope an artist could be. His songs reflect the bare-bones honesty of a searching, passionate faith. Unafraid of the questions or of stepping on toes, Groves sets his sights as high as possible, aiming to pursue profound theological truths in the most accessible lyrical metaphors he can create.

Ginny Owens

Ginny Owens is a Contemporary Christian music singer/songwriter. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and has been totally blind since the age of two. When she graduated from Belmont University with a degree in Music Education, she found that most people were skeptical about hiring a blind music teacher.

Instead she concentrated in singing and songwriting and began making CDs, and has been producing them since 1999 with Rocketown Records, a label under Michael W. Smith. Her music has been featured on television shows, such as Roswell and Felicity. Ginny has also received three Dove awards, including New Artist of the Year. In January 2005, Ginny Owens started a non-profit organization called the Fingerprint Initiative.

The organization has worked in conjunction with other groups, such as Compassion International, The International Justice Mission, and Habitat for Humanity. Ginny Owens has been featured on CNN to talk about the organization and their efforts to help rebuild New Orleans, following Hurricane Katrina

Supporting Acts

Downhere

downhere is a Juno, Dove, and Covenant Award winning Christian Rock (melodic alt-rock) band from Canada. They have released three albums to date, with the third being Wide-Eyed And Mystified, which was released on May 23, 2006. As with other bands such as Fleetwood Mac and Vertical Horizon, downhere has two lead singers.

The band was formed by Marc Martel and Jason Germain who were room mates at college in Caronport, Saskatchewan. Martel and Germain added fellow Canadians Tyson Manning and Jeremy Thiessen to the mix and released a now out-of-print CD on Slyngshot Records. That album was re-worked with new bassist Glenn Lavender and became their debut international release through Word Records. Their second album, also released through Word Records was called So Much For Substitutes.

In 2006 they signed to John Mays Centricity Records and released "Wide-Eyed And Mystified" which lead to CovenantAwards (GMA Canada) for Recorded Song of the Year (for "A Better Way") and Rock Album of the Year and the 2007 Juno Award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year.

Johnny Parks

Belfast based worship leader, Johnny Parks has led worship at Spring Harvest, Cross Rhythms, Summer Madness and Worship Together events. Johnny was also featured a couple of years ago on Survivor's Emerge series with his 7 track live album 'Close to You' recorded by Paul Burton.

'Almighty Sound', his latest album with Survivor, is produced by Sam Gibson, who has recently mixed albums for Tim Hughes, Newsboys and Delirious? It is a skillfully crafted album of anthemic and reflective psalm-like songs. Tim Hughes and Vicky Beeching join Johnny on this refreshing journey into contemporary worship.

If you are not familiar with the music that Johnny creates or the way he leads worship we think you will find it uplifting. Johnny is not afraid to break the mould and push into new musical territories, yet his music has an appeal for a wide age range. It is music that will engage your soul and draw you heavenwards. You will feel encouraged, hopeful, challenged and inspired

Bluetree

Bluetree are a worship band from Belfast Northern Ireland. Worship. Rock. Techno(logy). Three words that don't seem to fit very easily into the same sentence. Its just as well we aren't confined to sentences. The music of Bluetree is an experience. This experience may well be loud, bold and energetic. It may also be soft and so quiet you can hear the heart beat of the person beside you.

You may be blown away by the powerful thud of the kick drum or the hypnotic wail of the electric guitars. However, if this is all you experience then your time with us may very well have been wasted. Through all the noises and beats, all the melodies and harmonies, what we want you to experience is the overwhelming presence of God.

We want you to forget the lights, the stage an
